Ordering a custom weathervane

A Personal Commissioning Experience

Thank you for your interest in SkyArt Studio & Gallery.

Each SkyArt weathervane is individually handcrafted as a custom commission. Rather than selecting a mass-produced product from inventory, you are working directly with the artist to create a piece designed specifically for your home, business, institution, or special project.

Whether your commission is based on one of our existing designs or an entirely original concept, our goal is to make the ordering process informative, enjoyable, and personally tailored to your needs.

Beginning Your Project

The first step is simply contacting us.

We invite you to discuss your ideas by telephone, email, text message, or through our website. Most projects begin with photographs, sketches, architectural drawings, or simply a conversation describing what you have in mind.

Helpful information includes:

• The subject or design you are considering
• Approximate dimensions
• Photographs of the installation location
• Roof, cupola, or mounting information
• Desired finish
• Project time frame
• Any special requests or modifications

You do not need to have every detail finalized before contacting us. We are happy to help develop your ideas from the earliest stages of the project.

Customer-Supplied Reference Materials

When a client provides photographs, drawings, artwork, logos, trademarks, or other reference materials for use in a commission, the client represents that they own the materials or have obtained any permissions necessary to authorize SkyArt Studio & Gallery to use them in creating the commissioned work.

The client is responsible for obtaining any permissions or licenses required for customer-supplied materials. SkyArt Studio & Gallery relies upon the client’s authorization when accepting and using such materials as reference for a commissioned design.

Design Development

Many commissions require design refinement before fabrication begins.

Depending upon your project, SkyArt may prepare:

• Scale drawings
• Installation drawings
• Architectural elevations
• Mounting diagrams
• Custom design sketches
• Directional assembly drawings

For many custom commissions, up to two drawing revisions are included after receipt of the required deposit. This allows us to refine proportions and details before fabrication begins.

Working Together

Most commissions are planned remotely through telephone conversations, email, text messaging, and our website, allowing clients throughout the United States to work directly with SkyArt regardless of location.

When appropriate for larger or more specialized projects, on-site consultations may be available by appointment.

Because our workshop is a private working studio, we do not operate a public walk-in showroom.

Placing Your Order

Once the design and project details have been approved, a 50% deposit is required to place your commission into our production schedule.

The remaining balance, including shipping charges and applicable Connecticut sales tax when required, is due upon completion and approval of the finished work before shipment.

Payments may be made by check. Deposit payments may also be arranged through PayPal when requested.

Fabrication

Every SkyArt weathervane is individually handcrafted using traditional metalworking techniques.

Depending upon the commission, fabrication may include:

• Copper forming
• Sculptural fabrication
• Silver solder construction
• Patination
• Faux bronze finishes
• Verdigris finishes
• 23-karat gold leaf
• Final balancing and assembly

Because every commission is handcrafted individually, completion schedules vary according to project complexity and our current production schedule.

Final Approval

When your commission has been completed, photographs of the finished weathervane will be emailed for your review.

After your approval has been received and final payment completed, your weathervane will be carefully packed and prepared for shipment.

Shipping

Most SkyArt commissions are shipped fully insured by UPS Ground.

Oversized projects requiring special handling may be shipped by commercial freight carrier.

Upon arrival, we ask that shipments be inspected promptly. If damage has occurred during shipment, please notify us immediately so that we may assist in resolving the matter as quickly as possible.

Existing Designs and Custom Modifications

Many designs appearing throughout the SkyArt galleries may be commissioned in their original form or modified to meet individual requirements.

Possible modifications include:

• Size
• Finish
• Direction
• Decorative details
• Architectural adaptation
• Lettering
• Personalized sculptural elements

Certain commissioned works have been created exclusively for individual clients and are identified on the website as unavailable for reproduction.

Portfolio Photography

Unless otherwise agreed, SkyArt reserves the right to photograph completed commissions for inclusion in our portfolio, website, exhibitions, and promotional materials.

Client privacy is always respected.

La Petite Weathervanes

Our La Petite collection is available for direct online purchase through individual product pages.

Return policies shown on those product pages apply only to eligible La Petite items.

Custom commissioned weathervanes are created specifically for each client and are therefore non-returnable.
