Rearing Horse Weathervane
The Rearing Horse Weathervane captures the strength, spirit, and dramatic beauty of a horse rising onto its hind legs. This powerful pose reflects the natural energy and movement of the horse. It also creates a bold and expressive silhouette.
The lifted forelegs, flowing mane, and extended tail bring a wonderful sense of motion to the design. In addition, the horse’s powerful stance gives the sculpture a commanding presence. Its distinctive shape stands out beautifully against the sky.
The rearing pose is also a natural form of play behavior seen in horses. Learn more about horse behavior from the University of Minnesota Extension.
Handcrafted Copper Weathervane
We individually hand sculpt every Rearing Horse Weathervane in copper. We carefully shape the body, head, mane, tail, and raised legs to capture the character of the horse. As a result, the finished sculpture feels balanced and full of movement.
Each weathervane begins as a custom commission. Therefore, every piece becomes a distinctive work of functional architectural art. This design is especially well suited to homes, barns, stables, equestrian properties, and cupolas.
Standard assemblies include two copper balls, brass retainer rings, a brass directional set, and a stainless-steel mast.
Optional finishes include faux bronze, verdigris patina, and 23-karat gold leaf.
Choosing the right proportions is important for a design with this much movement. See our Weathervane Sizing Guide to help determine the appropriate size for your home, barn, cupola, or other structure.
A Dramatic Equestrian Statement
Few horse poses are as recognizable as the rearing horse. Its upward movement gives the design a strong sense of confidence and vitality. For that reason, it offers a dramatic alternative to a traditional standing or running horse.
The design also works especially well when viewed from a distance. Its raised forelegs, arched body, mane, and tail create a clear silhouette. Together, these details give the Rearing Horse Weathervane its unmistakable character.
